Thanks to y’all we’re gonna be twenty toes down in Australia and New Zealand for the 2023 World Cup! The WAKE UP edition of our newsletter will be your go-to spot for updates, analysis, recaps, travel chat, and anything else we drop.

Welcome to WAKE UP w/ Diaspora United! We are hyped to start this newsletter to help take y’all through a World Cup that, frankly, for most, is incredibly rude to sleep schedules. Don’t worry, we got you! We’ll drop into your inbox, likely first thing in the AM for most, to give our takes on what happened while you were (possibly) sleeping!

Thank to so many of y’all, we’ll have presence at the World Cup for the whole darn thing. First, Courtney is gonna be there pretty much for the duration. She’s spending most of her time in Australia, with some hop skips to New Zealand for matches, and if you’re reading this right now she’s probably already there. (If you ask nicely, she may even send you a weather report.)

André is heading to New Zealand and will be based in Wellington for a couple weeks starting July 29. There’s a chance he gets up to Auckland for USWNT v. Portugal, but he’ll definitely hit multiple group stage games in Wellington, plus the Round of 16 and Quarterfinal matches at Sky Stadium.

Because the plan is to go to as many matches as possible, we’re gonna do some writing in between podcasting, but will definitely drop episodes to talk about results and experiences at the World Cup. Also you can expect some likely very chaotic voice notes before, during and after matches as we try to ship the vibes directly to wherever you happen to be!

Again, we cannot thank y’all enough. This is truly trip of a lifetime shit. Dream come true shit. Once-in-a-lifetime shit. And we’re so honored to have built something y’all love enough to help us make this a reality.

We’ll have group previews, match analysis, commentary, player spotlights and more on the way later. But until then, André’s gotta work on channeling his inner Alana cause these hoodies are makin it real hard not to walk off the plane like Trin.
