The USWNT have officially begun their journey to win a third consecutive World Cup. Courtney and André talked after the game about the good the bad and the creator of several defender’s nightmares, Sophia Smith. Courtney specifically says Sophia Smith balled out as a way to say happy birthday to André!

Courtney also caught up with Naomi Girma after the match and here’s what she had to say:

Girma on her WC debut: “It was good. I think we're all super excited, ready to get the tournament started. A lot of us in our first World Cups. Just excited to you know, get the ball rolling, connect the first pass, make the first tackle. I think it felt good to just get out there together. Yeah, start with a win and just keep building from here”

On playing with Julie Ertz and if Ertz gave her any advice: “Yeah, I mean, she has so much wisdom. I think we've just been training together and having a lot of little conversations about what we can tweak what we can make better. And I think just focusing on little details. I think she's one of the best at doing that on our team. So playing next to her makes me better and I hope it’s the same for her.”

On Sophia Smith: I think she did such a good job. Just taking what was on if there was space to run behind or if there's space to come time to feet and I think she's one of the best that reading back lines and breaking defenses down and her two goals were huge for us today. So I'm really happy for her and really excited to see her keep building.
